Hi!

I present to you, Sir Squidalot’s Grand Montreal Crusade!

I don't have any video capture to show you right now, or the game itself (still in debugging, and adding some features), but here's the look of my little puzzle game:

I'll post more details when it will be possible!

Thanks!

That squid is really creepy. What does he do?

just squids around, like he just don't care.

also he seems to collect apples.

Hahaha!

Ok. Here's the concept of the game.

You need to find a way to reach the metro. That's pretty simple. To do that, you have special abilities: you can grow your body by eating apples, you can change the gravity by walking on walls, you can bend your body to reach places that you shouldn't be able to go through, you can loose body parts by passing through small hallways, and you can change the position of your face anywhere on your body.

Here some other screenshots:

The game is not ready yet, it needs levels, UI elements, a logo, transitions, SFXs, and some other stuff. I'll put it there when it will be ready.

I'm missing a logo, some UI elements, and there's only 4 levels for now, but I think I can share it to you guys anyway. Awesome!

So, here the links to Sir Squidalot's Grand Montreal Crusade:

MacOS:

I strongly suggest to look at the controls before playing. They are pretty easy to understand, but it sucks to not understand the possibilities in a puzzle game.

Have fun!

Hey man, just gave it a try. I love the pc-speaker style music and Sir Squidalot himself.

I'm having a tough time wrapping my head around the puzzles (got stuck on level 3). When I successfully get myself around a corner, it feels really good (and I like the clear goal of crossing certain size gaps or boosting yourself up to reach a hole), but it's a real bummer to lose pieces.

If losing pieces of the squid is definitely required, maybe you could push losing pieces as a required part of the solutions off until later levels (smoothing out the difficulty curve) and/or give people a warning somehow (or a clear indicator) when they're going to lose a piece, similar in concept to what you do when players would drop off a ledge and fall forever.

Just my two cents! I think there's definitely some cool potential here.

Oh thanks!

I like your suggestions, I think it would help the user to better understand his possibilities. Maybe I could add other bubbles, like you said, for when you can switch the gravity, or when you would loose character pieces.

Have you found that you can click with your mouse on the character pieces to change the face position of our Fantastic Sir Squidalot? I think it's not really intuitive for now... I'll try to find a solution for that.

So, I've added a new version of the game (at the same addresses). The only important thing that I've added is the awesome logo that Dominique (Dom2D) did for me. Thanks again Dom!

Enjoy!

I've added some "subtle" tutorial stuff in the game as suggested by Dom2D. I think it really helps the user to understand what he has to do to solve the puzzles.
The difficulty curve is more smooth now (thanks pulsemeat!), and I'll probably add other types of bubbles.... and levels... maybe tomorrow... or not...
