Announcement: September 2010 Meetup!

Slowly but surely, September is creeping up on us, ready to sucker-punch the summer wind right out of out lungs. We say: to heck with that! Let’s ring the month in with awesome friends, good beer, and excellent indie games! Cranky ol’ September will have no choice but to crack a smile and join in the merriment. Yes: it is time for a MEETUP.

WHEN: Wednesday, September 1, 7:00 pm

WHERE: Brasserie Artisanale l’Amère à Boire, 2049 rue Saint-Denis, 3rd floor

WHO: Anyone interested in creating games! As always, musicians, artists, designers, coders, and aspiring game-makers of all feathers are welcome!

This month, we’ll be doing a demo of some accessible but powerful game creation utilities. There are plenty of great tools for making games that don’t require any prior programming knowledge — perfect if you’re burning to make a game on your own but don’t know how to start, or are just curious to get your feet wet. Approaches, alternatives and secret cheat codes will also be discussed. Let’s get game-makin’!

Mount Royal Proclamations

The telegraph machines here at the Mount Royal Game Society have been clattering away non-stop lately, with reports flooding in from our foreign stations the world over. It’s missive madness!

The newest Montreal tech site, NextMontréal, has gone live. As their primary audience consists of local entrepreneurs and individuals interested in forming startups, the content should be of interest and offer insights to independent game developers as well. Check out their gaming section, or browse the rest of the site for op-eds and local tech news.

Sony Networking Mixer

As reported over at the IGDA, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) and Export Development Canada (EDC) are hosting a networking reception at the Terrasses Bonsecours in the Old Port on Wednesday, August 25th, from 18:00-21:00. It’s a chance to network with Sony’s 3rd-party PlayStation team—as well as others in the local community—and discuss business and technical topics. It’s a great opportunity, and open to any and all developers who register, free of charge.

Weekend Jams

Both Ludum Dare 18 and the August Klik of the Month are happening this weekend. If you’re going to be participating, shout it out in the comments—we might even make it a group jam! Suggestions for venues are always welcome.

And that about wraps it up. As always, stay tuned to this space for news as fast as the wires can carry it.

Meeting III — Announce!

Hey everyone! July has sped past altogether too quickly—what with vacation time, warm weather, and general Summer-in-Montreal-ness—and that means the August meetup is just around the corner.

Astonishingly so.

And so, without further ado (and at something of the last minute), we’re going to be getting together this Wednesday. In other words:

WHAT: Montreal game developer meetup
WHEN: This Wednesday, August 4th, at 7pm (19:00)
WHERE: L’Amère à Boire brewpub, upstairs.

(Also see the Facebook event, if you’re into that sort of thing.)

Come along for the usual discussions and demos, bring your laptops and secret projects, and let us dance sit the night away, in the company of friends.

For your health!
